So,
let me compare two of the best code scanner apps for android. I’ll keep this
comparison short and try to cover every aspect of both scanner apps.
QR
Droid vs Barcode Scanner
File
Size
QR
Droid: 3.4 MB version 4.1.1 as updated on 7 December 2011.
Barcode
Scanner: 589 Kb version 3.72 as updated on 11 November 2011.
Let
the file size not trick you. The file sizes are different because both
applications offer different features.
However,
I must tell you that both apps install themselves on the SD card and some files
go to your cache memory, but that is nothing to worry about.
Pick
your app, if you want extremely light scanner app with limited features then go
for Barcode scanner and if you want a fully featured, yet a heavy app, then go
for QR Droid.
Installation
and Running
You
can download the app from Android Market that is linked with your account and
your Smartphone will install it automatically when you are connected to the
internet.
Running
the apps is just a tap away (as usual). If you work with bar codes on a daily
basis and have internet access then any of these apps will help you greatly
when you make a purchase and aren’t sure about the product.
You
can create a shortcut of both apps by tapping and holding for a little while
till they appear on your home screen.
Features
I
have already mentioned above that QR Droid is heavy but fully featured and
Barcode Scanner is light with limited featured.
Some
features include (both apps):
Searching the scanned product on the
internet (internet connectivity required).
Sharing it via email and available apps
like blogger, Bluetooth, wordpress, dropbox, Gmail, evernote, google+,
translate, etc. Basically, it depends on how many apps you have that allow you
to share something.
Sharing via SMS.
Exclusive
Features (only QR Droid)
QR Droid has all the features of Barcode
scanner and if you are not bound by little internal memory then it would be
your first choice.
These screenshots will show you the options
that you get with QR Droid.
Conclusion
I
am sure that you have sensed my bend towards QR Droid because I am not bound by
little internal storage.
I
have Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.4 and it has 150 MB
of internal memory. It is not a lot but it is enough to hold some of the
essential files that need to be copied on the phone memory after SD card.
I
find QR Droid to be very helpful when I need to create QR Codes. As a matter of
fact, I love both apps.
Barcode
Scanner is simple and fast and it takes only a couple of seconds to learn the
details of the products that I scanned.
Barcode
Scanner doesn’t offer you a lot of interface or even settings for that matter.
So, for people who like really (really) simple apps, this app would be just
great.
QR
Droid offers great set of settings and you can set it to run like Barcode
Scanner as well. I mean that, just like Barcode Scanner’s first step is to scan
the code as soon as you tap the app, you can also make this as a default step
of QR Droid.
I
would recommend you to install both apps and have best of both worlds. However,
rest is yours to decide and pick what works best for you.
